Little boy in football gear

Tonight on my sleepy two minute bike ride home from work, I noticed, just off Ohio Street, a little top-heavy person bumbling across the high school football field toward his teammates. I thought, how is that not breaking some law of physics? It made me smile, because I truly believe this is one of the funniest looking things on the planet: a little, 6 or 7 year old child in football shoulder pads, helmet, and a jersey that stretches to his knees. It's not dissimilar to a bobble-head doll or that costumed guy in Shrek who runs, panicky, straight through the bank-link like cordons and tips over.

Anyway, with this as my opening paragraph, it's easy to see that my day was absolutely devoid of interesting things. Now I am listening to This American Life's program on break-ups, and of course, to the cars zooming by (I live on one of the busiest blocks in Bellingham). I was certain this program would alleviate my heartbreak with a few laughs, but I find myself only thinking how corny and unlike my situation all of these stories are. I'm also simultaneously writing my first blog (outside of myspace that is, which everyone knows doesn't count anyway) and downloading my first podcasts (All Songs Considered, The Splendid Table, and of course, This American Life). Luddite tendencies by damned! Technology surrounds me! All the while, I'm guzzling organic Chilean wine in a fake-antique-y looking glass purchased from the Portland Anthropologie in the Pearl.

Am I wasting my evening? Perhaps. Have I left the dishes in the sink far too long? Definitely. Have I touched the moving boxes littering my apartment in two weeks? No. I did, however, pay some bills and sign my jury duty notice. Oh, and took out the recycling! Does that suffice as responsibility for a Tuesday night? I sure hope so, because the only other plans I have tonight are loading the pictures I took of my plants onto my My Picutres folders. WOOHOO!
